Vase of Flowers is a work series by the Asterman Art Collective.
This digital still life work of art is depicting an inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace natural objects – flowers, vase, shelf, rag. With origins in the Middle Ages and Ancient Greco-Roman art, still-life painting emerged as a distinct genre and professional specialization in Western painting by the late 16th century, and has remained significant since then.
Following some of the Middle Ages traditions of floral design, and the artistic representations of the painters of that time, Asterman is searching for a static yet poetic scene with an eastern meditative feel. Theuy experiment with the gentle arrangement of elements within a composition of a digital painting, balancing the motion and the still compositions.
From the times when practiced floristry was mainly by the spiritual seekers and monks, for medicinal reasons, flowers in the middle ages went back to being arranged in vases, and in particular, Chinese vases, towards the cultural explosion of the European Periods.
In this work the Vase itself is being the view to an alternative horizon, while the still life scenery is indeed kept in gentle hibernation.
