ZEITGUISED
Eject

Created from an earlier advertising campaign, this surreal 3D animation originally explored different material elements as abstract matter floating in a disorienting space reminiscent of a classicist interior.

02

Thomas Lisle
Big Bang

Lisle’s work takes painting to several new frontiers. Firstly, it is programmable paint, which can be edited and manipulated at the atomic level. Secondly, time-based painting, all paintings up to this point in history, are static when viewed. Thirdly, painting in 3-dimensional space, paintings that are simultaneously sculptures and exist as 3-dimensional entities. And fourthly, paintings that can defy the the physics and laws of the physical world, where gravity, for example, can manipulated.

03

ZEITGUISED
GEIST XYZ

Geist.xyz is a digital artwork from the creative studio Zeitguised that brings textiles to life, transforming them into animated, dynamic forms that seem to possess their own agency. In this surreal project, fabric swathes dance and undulate, moving through minimalist environments as though endowed with an inner life force. The animation, driven by algorithms that simulate intricate dance routines, wiggles, and fluid movements, creates the uncanny impression that these textiles are alive, performing in an ethereal, otherworldly fashion.

SELECTED

Robert Seidel
VELLUM – Slices of a Virtual Sculpture

In an era increasingly defined by the virtualization of knowledge, science and finance, the virtual sculpture “vellum” transferred the memory of a particular urban rhythm — that of Seidel’s hometown, Jena, Germany — to the exhibition site at the Nabi Art Center in Seoul, South Korea.

06

Thomas Lisle
Flotsam

Lines are to the world of visual language the universally flexible building blocks of words, symbols, drawings, and, to a large extent, paintings and compositions.

In the digital three-dimensional virtual realm, lines can be drawn, controlled and manipulated in ways that would seem beyond belief only 20 years ago. The possibility that lines can be drawn in a three-dimensional space itself is a new concept; drawing and painting have been in the 2D world for the last few thousand years.

SELECTED

Valentina Ferrandes
Victory

“Victory” is a computational exploration of the Hellenistic sculpture “Nike of Samothrace”. The digital model is decomposed and reconstructed using an algorithmic 3D model analysis. A custom software patch generates the extrusions. The 3D polygonal structure is analysed and re-meshed according to various parameters. Motion is never entirely predictable. Through a process of dynamic deconstruction and the shifting lens of digital technology, Victory offers a new experience of an iconic masterpiece.

08

Julian Brangold
Observation Machine (Iteration)

A sculpture depicting a seating man is multiplied six times, the copies rotating in a choreographed fashion. Colored in a pink hue, the sculptures resemble consumer products, souvenirs lined up on a shelf waiting to be purchased. At the same time, the artist applies an effect that makes the sculptures come to pieces, as if an invisible hand were trying to touch them but destroyed them in the process.

09

ZEITGUISED
Gem Forest

In “Gem Forest,” a series of otherworldly gem-like rocks float and interact in a serene, moonlit forest, creating a mesmerizing visual symphony. The large, iridescent boulders—softly glowing in hues of pink, green, and purple—levitate above the forest floor, seemingly defying gravity as they gently sway and rotate in a choreographed dance. The forest setting, dark and mysterious, provides a natural backdrop that contrasts with the ethereal beauty of the gem stones, as the moonlight filters through the trees, casting delicate shadows on the mossy ground.

Ronen Tanchum
Artificial Wild Dream

An AI-generated audio-visual journey, exploring a machine’s vivid memories of nature. It showcases extinct species and decaying reefs through innovative AI techniques, offering an immersive, dream-like perspective on our natural world.

Transports viewers into the vivid, intricate recollections of a machine’s memory of our natural world. This unique collaboration between artificial intelligence and artist Ronen Tanchum reveals the machine’s interpretation of reality, nature, and living beings.Narrating AI-generated visions, the film evolves through elements of nature, reflecting a world the machine ‘remembers’ but has never physically experienced.

SELECTED

Kineret Noam
Three Rooms: The Dive

A continuous traveling sequence takes us deep into the kelp forest, which becomes the stage for a dancer, gently stretching her body. The water then turns into a landscape dominated by the stars in the night sky.

SELECTED

Eelco Brand
WT

A slow panning movement reveals a daylight scene inside a forest, dominated by the thick trunks of the trees, some firmly standing, others laying down defeated, covered in moss. Almost imperceptible at first, a series of thin tubular plants rooted in the ground and the dead trunks let go bursts of spore-like elements that float weightlessly upwards until they disappear from view, probably continuing their journey in outer space.

13

SELECTED

Nico Tone
Enter Arcadia I

The camera slowly pans through a space lush with vegetation made of brushstrokes and painterly textures. The landscape is clearly artificial, but evokes images of an idyllic nature as depicted by the Fauves. The composition gradually becomes abstract, shapes turning into a blur, as if in a dream scene from an old movie.

14

Nico Tone
Enter Arcadia III – The Sea

An underwater scene evokes the natural world that escaped the gaze of Romantic painters and poets, but also constitutes a lost Arcadia. Fossilized shells represent what is left of the creatures that lived at the bottom of the sea.

SELECTED

Eelco Brand
OBJ

Slowly moving up and down, the camera shows a fertile ground full of sprouts that initially resembles an ordinary field, but turns out to be populated by the most extravagant plants, a lively show of colors and shapes that could belong to a real landscape or to the fantasy world of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

16

SELECTED

Eelco Brand
ZBZ

An apparently realistic natural scene is populated with strange plants that have an outlandish quality to them. By painstakingly creating a 3D environment with the patience of a devoted painter, Eelco Brand invites us to observe nature anew and question our perception of reality.

ZEITGUISED
Anoomaly – New Version

A surreal pink moon hovers delicately over a barren landscape, creating a captivating juxtaposition of nature’s elements. The artwork’s title—a playful combination of “anomaly” and “moon”—alludes to the uncanny nature of this celestial body. Gently levitating under shifting weather conditions—sunshine, rainfall, and storm—the pink moon embodies a sense of calm amidst chaos, offering a mesmerizing focal point that transcends the boundaries of time and space.

SELECTED

Yuge Zhou
Interlinked I

Interlinked I depicts major urban centers moving together in unity. Footage filmed on either U.S. coast is reassembled into interlocking patterns of endless streams of transitory encounters and architectural variations—a collective tapestry of their citizenry.

19

SELECTED

Yuge Zhou
Interlinked II

Interlinked II is a collage of hundreds of video clips shot in the subway stations in New York City. This underground network becomes the stage for the Sisyphean routines of its commuters. The ever-cycling movement suggests a rhythm and theatricality in these urban passageways.
